Political Yoga

Posted: June 6, 2011 in Articles, Politics

When corruptions are topping politicians agenda we cannot expect them to enforce a law or bill to scrutinize themselves. It is like sitting on the tree branch and cutting the same branch with axe.Why would they like do that ?

Few ministers or politicians may be honest but the majority are corrupt. They invest money when contesting in elections and try to retrieve them after coming to power. This has become order of the day.

People have to choose between bad or worse to elect. The situation does not seem to change. The ray of hope came in with protest by Anna Hazare,Bhushan duo, Kiran Bedi and RTI activist Khejriwal.

Citizens of India thronged Delhi and other parts showing their support for the movement.Government also agreed to draft the Lokpal bill. Then started comedy of errors. They are planning to exclude PM and MP’s.Then for whom is Lokpal Bill. Are we going to investigate the constable who gets 10Rs bribe at Police Chowki.

In no means that is acceptable. But we want to stop the Lion’s share of corruption first.Isn’t it better to uproot a tree rather than plucking leaves of a poisonous tree.Sorry for the harsh comparison. One corrupt politicians corrupts the entire system.

Before government could relax and proceed with the bill, yogic guru Ramdev Baba started his fast for Black money and other demands.

There are more critics for his fast than supporters.People will have trust in you, If you practice what you preach.Anna was Gandhian and rest of the lot were also honest. But there are allegations on Baba himself.

He charges a bomb to teach yoga , travels in his chartered plane and had recently bought Little Cumbrae Island, off the Scottish coast, for about 2 million pounds to build wellness centre.

Ramdev’s business empire includes hospitals, wellness centres, colleges, and of course herbal products. His trusts are worth Rs 1,100 crore (Rs 11 billion). He is also being backed by RSS and Sangh groups. This all have diverted the good cause he is fighting for.

Politicians oppose this approach, saying if each one is going to follow the path of protest to get things done why is there a democracy and why we need to follow a process?

Anna & co approached many parties before sitting on a fast. They spoke to deaf ears.Politicians are equally responsible as common man to ensure system (democracy) is not paralyzed.

UPA I gave us RTI.Lets hope UPA II gives us Lokpal and evades corruption and corrupt ministers and allies. There allies need not support them coz people will support them.

Lets hope for a better governed India at least for our children!!!!!

Good to hear … Chief Ministers were sworn in before the Election ink left from my finger.

Didi (mamta) has won a historic battle toppling left government after 34 years. Her path to Bidhan Sabha has not been without struggle.Mamta was lambasted by left workers fracturing her skull.

She formed her paty in 1991 and became Chief minister in 2011.Her was the only party that split from Congress and attained glory. She played active role supporting farmers of Nandigram and Shingur when left ordered pogrom. This boosted her image.Apart from that people voted against left.

34 years of damage cannot be controlled in 34 months atleast.Entire country talks about her simplicity. She has been one of the poorest MP owning assets worth Rs.4.72 lakhs. There are also ten crorepatis in her government.

Banerjee after taking over the mantle has been using the car provided by a party colleague. On the day of swearing-in of the Mamata Banerjee government, she walked the 500 metres from the Raj Bhavan to the Writer’s Buildings.

She has refused to use her official bulletproof car, dispensed with the pilot car of her convoy, which she has also pruned and claims no preference for her vehicles at traffic signals, which has left security officials worried.

She has given surprise visit to hospitals and sprung into action and let us see what is in store for people of Bengal.

Incontrast to her simplicity is another lady, jayalalitha. She is always accused of misusing power, creating wealth and putting people in trobule for her luxuries.

This time she was voted to power as public vented their anger against DMK inspite of their development works.

People vote both the parties alternately hoping that some good will happen this time. But again people are disappointed.

She has started her unwanted acts by ignoring newly built 1200 Crore Assembly, scraping Common School System ( Samacheer Kalvi). This has caused crores of loss as all the books will be reprinted and schools will reopen on Jun 15th.

People of Tamilnadu and Bengal want both the lady chief minister to provide some good governance and development.

Today was April 13, Poll day in Tamilnadu. The only day when voter gets respect from politicians.

Our constituency is Shollinganallur.Kanthan was the ADMK candidate and Balaji was the VCK, DMK alliance candidate. There were other candidates as well. But always people choose to prefer one of the two corrupt groups.May be, people have 5 year long term memory loss.People will forget how corrupt the opposition party is in the 5 Years.

So pendulum keeps swinging, one time it is Karuna and other time it is Jaya.TN polls have got All India attraction due to wikileaks expose that money is given for voters.Election Commission became more vigilant. But bribing voters do happen.

The Election Commission and the income-tax department have seized a total of `54.17 crores “unaccounted money” so far in the run-up to the elections in Tamil Nadu.

Qureshi even commented that DMK gave them sleepless nights.Such is the money and muscle power of ruling DMK.ADMK is also not left behind. Now Vijaykanth has also joine dthem.DMK with anti incumbency fear tend to pay more to woo voters.

Voters are happy receiving money from parties mentioning that their voting would not be affected by money. But they tend to forget politician is not a fool to spend money unnecessarily. They turn out to be pampahagous eater of people’s money.Invest 1000Rs/- and loot five times is their concept for opposition and Invest portion of already looted money is the concept for ruling party.

Vadivel was Star campaigner for DMK venting out his enemity against Vijaykanth.Mostly there were personal attacks and freebies talk from all politicians rather than development, employment and education.

This is not leading us anywhere.Vijaykanth started talking about third front and finally joined AIDMK wagon. There are independents like SarathBabu from velachery, IJK and Makkal Sakthi  sporting educated candidates. They do not make major impact.

But we need to believe to bring change. We cannot say all are corrupt and sit at home instead of voting, this would further worsen the situation.Lets keep supporting educated youths and development instead of parties.Hoping for a better tomorrow!!!!!

Voter Turnout:

Tamil Nadu – 75%

Kerala – 75%

Pondy – 85%

Lets wait till May 13 to see who battles out in this contest.

This is my first Tamil Post. Please excuse those who don’t understand Tamil. It is a letter written by Kannadasan on Karunanidhi in the voice of Anna.

Indian political geniuses Mahatma Gandhi and Emperor Akbar have been listed among the “Top 25 Political Icons” of all time by TIME magazine, along with Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama and Mao Zedong, the father of modern China. Released on the 100th birth anniversary of the late U.S. President Ronald Reagan, the TIME list figures names like the great conqueror Alexander the Great and some of history’s most polarising figures like Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.

Mohandas Gandhi

Out of the Indian independence movement arose a figure few will ever forget: Mohandas ‘Mahatma’ Gandhi. While working as a lawyer in South Africa, he pioneered the concept of satyagraha, or, civil disobedience in response to tyranny, helping Indians there campaign for civil rights. His peaceful acts of protest abroad and his anti-poverty campaigns at home helped him become the spiritual heart of the Indian independence struggle.

Working with Jawaharlal Nehru, the nation’s future prime minister, Gandhi led the country in peaceful protest against foreign domination, exemplified by the 1930 Salt March in protest to a British salt tax. His rise paved the way for India’s independence in 1947. Though the country was later divided (and Gandhi himself assassinated), his role in the bloodless revolution earned him the title “Father of India” and paved the way for other social movements, including America’s struggle for civil rights.

Akbar the Great

If ever a leader merited a tautology, it was the Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great (literally, “Great the Great”). Under Akbar, a fragile collection of fiefs around Delhi grew into the great Mughal Empire, a diverse and sprawling kingdom across northern India. While Christians staggered haltingly toward achieving what we now know as the Renaissance, Akbar presided over a flourishing of the arts, sponsoring artisans, poets, engineers and philosophers.

He was a canny warlord whose conquests gave rise to one of the early modern world’s wealthiest states. Moreover, while a Muslim, Akbar was spiritually curious and hosted religious scholars from Hindu gurus to Jesuits at his vast, diverse court. At his capital city of Fatehpur Sikri, which he built according to astronomical coordinates, he championed a melding of Hinduism and Islam known as the din-i-ilahi or the “divine faith.” While the creed no longer lingers, the ethos of pluralism and tolerance that defined Akbar’s age underlies the values of the modern republic of India.

Nitish Kumar after winning Bihar elections seems to be in a hurry to clean up Bihar politics.90% of the politicians are either corrupt or goondas or both. This still reamains to be on eof the most under developed state. He has started acting against wrong doers and legislative spoils in the state without caring either about opposition or own alliance and colleagues.

Bihar Cabinet decided to abolish the  1 crore given annually to all legislators of the state assembly and the Bihar council under the Local Area Development ( LAD) fund. The move will save the State exchequer 318 crore. But the bigger benefit is immeasurable. It will help the Bihar legislators overcome the credibility deficit— that many of their compatriots across the country face.

We all know how much of the development fund is being used for development across India.

The MLA LAD fund is an offshoot of the MPLAD scheme introduced by the Narasimha Rao government whose aim was to help MPs execute development in their constituencies. State governments followed suit with similar funds for MLAs.

When the scheme was launched in 1993- 94, the annual grant was Rs.50 lakh per MP. The amount was increased to Rs.1 crore in 1994- 95 and four years later, it was again doubled. Under the scheme, funds are directly sent to the district authorities who are supposed to examine and implement the developmental works recommended by the local MP.

The officials are expected to maintain details of the funds utilised and the work executed and are to send monthly progress reports to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. According to a reply given to a recent RTI query, the total amount released under MP LADS since its inception is Rs 20,957.25 crore as of march 2010. That’s for about 800 MPs alone. Add ` 1 crore each to nearly 4,000 legislators for the last 15 years and it works out to a mindboggling Rs 60,000 crores.

Can you imagine how many schemes could have been implemented with 60000 Crores ? Many villages don’t have access, connectivity, electricity, sanitation facilities, schools and hospitals.

There are just too many middlemen walking away with the cash meant for the poor.Even Rajiv Gandhi has said only 17 paisa of a rupee is being utilized out of every rupee spent. We have comittees but no committment. There is too much duplication and too little accountability. The most sad part is same road or school is shown as built under different schemes.Mostly politicians allot lands, jobs, tenders and what not to their relatives and acquaintances.

Our politicians do so much foreign trips even then they don’t take steps to change our country but keep promising of Shangai and New York.

Nitish hailing from Bihar-land of scams has set an example and showed path to other heads of state.Wake up Chief Ministers!!!!!!!

He plunged into student politics during his days at Bihar College of Engineering and was a key leader of 1974 students’ movement.

Though his contemporaries like Lalu Prasad and Ramvilas Paswan tasted electoral victory to enter the Lok Sabha in 1977, success was slow in coming for the son of a vaidya (village doctor) Kaviraj Ram Lakhan Singh.

Nitish has come long away winning from Harnaut in 1985 for the first time to sweeping the 2010 Bihar election by winning 206 seats out of 243.Bihar has gone past the era of caste politics and proved that development is an all-time winner in polls, says Nitish Kumar, the state’s victorious chief minister.

Roads and bridges that Nitish Kumar built has brought his alliance back to power. They made his journey safer. The mandate is clear. Caste politics too has a place because the deprived castes need ‘development’ the most.He has swept the elctions without giving freebies rice,tv or gas stove.

Nitish has worked for Infrastructure,Women empowerment, law and order and education. He was a hardworker hammering day after day on development and what he calls “Naya Bihar” (New Bihar).

Improvement in law and order also came in handy for Nitish as he strode an impoverished state like a colossus. Kumar worked on social engineering equations on the ground to woo the extremely backward castes, the mahadalits and in pockets of poorer Muslims carefully fashioning an alliance of these groups though there was virtually no mention of caste in his campaign speeches.

A seasoned and a down to earth man of simple tastes, Kumar, the wily craftsman of modern day politics, did the delicate balancing act keeping votaries of both hardliners in his party JD-U and BJP together.

Bihar voters have rejected the self-serving dynastic politics of Lalu Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan.Lalu, the man who ruled Bihar for 15 years has suffered his worst electoral defeat in what is arguably one of the India’s biggest political earthquakes. The biggest blow for Lalu was the defeat of his wife and Rabri devi who lost in both the constituencies Raghopur and Sonepur. The last time the RJD won the assembly election was in 2000, just before Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar.

His biggest achievement was fodder scam.He is a man of political drama.

Bihar had been requesting Centre to include Bihar in the special category of states. Bihar has been demanding this since at least 1999. In 1989, the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had announced a special package for Bihar of over Rs 5,000 crore for various projects but it was never implemented.

Nitish said this is a mandate for people and he is gonna work harder. It is not that he has turned Bihar into prosperous state.People there lost hope of livlihood which has been revived by Nitish.Rahul, my colleague who hails from Patna also shared same thought that basic roads were not built these years. Now most of kucha roads have been changed reducing journey time within state.

Modi(Gujarat) ,Sheela Dixit (Delhi) ,Raman Singh (HP) ,Naveen patnaik (Orissa) all are being reelected owing to Development.

Lets hope Indian voters remain intelligent and vote for development.JAI HIND!!!!!
